How to measure your master bedroom for an oversized bed

The average master bedroom is 14 feet by 16 feet. Often the master bedroom size will depend on which part of the country you live in.

Please don’t guess. Use a measuring tape. Click here for a review of different tape measures. Choose one that can measure 25 feet.

A retractable tape measure is one of the most useful tools you can buy and once you have one, you’ll find yourself using it quite often.

Lay the tape measure on the floor to find out the length and the width of your master bedroom. Then refer to the legend below to make sure your master bedroom will be large enough for the bed you want and enough space so you can get around it.

Once you have an idea of which bed you’d like to buy, outline the dimensions of your new bed in your bedroom using blue painter’s tape. This will allow you to choose the best position for your bed and your other furniture. You may find a more convenient configuration once you decide on a new bed.

Which mattress do I need for an adjustable bed frame?

Even if you have a memory foam mattress, it may not necessarily work on an adjustable bed frame. The only way to be sure is to check the mattress specifications. If it does not clearly state that the mattress will work with an adjustable bed frame, don’t buy it. If you’re not sure, please ask a qualified sales associate at a local mattress retailer.

Even oversize mattresses can have an adjustable bed frame. Tall sleepers and people who sleep with their families can rejoice.

Why are more sleeping families including their dogs, at bedtime

The more we find out about dogs and other pets, the more it makes sense. Studies show there are good reasons to sleep with your dog.

Make sure your new bed will be big enough for everyone to have enough room for a restful and rejuvenating night of sleep. Sleep experts and sleep coaches often suggest sleeping with your pet as a way to improve your sleep. You can find out more about sleep coaches here.

1.        Lower anxiety levels – Studies show people who suffer from anxiety tend to sleep better with their dog in the same bed. The same goes for children. It’s an excellent way to strengthen bonds, and that means more oxytocin is released. Oxytocin is commonly known as the “love” hormone.

2.        Improved mental health – Dogs are often relied upon to brighten the spirits of people who are sad or troubled. The emotional support provided by dogs improves people’s mood and their outlook on life.

3.        Natural warmth – Anyone who has snuggled up to a dog on a chilly night knows the value of having a loyal friend to count on.

Think twice about a custom mattress

Sleep is important, and if money is no object, then you might want to have a custom mattress made to your own specifications. That’s a good thing, but even if you have the money, you might not like the process.

The first challenge is finding someone who makes a truly custom mattress. If and when you find one, you’ll learn that it will be very expensive. Far more than you would expect. It can also take much more time than you’re prepared to wait.

Take a good look at what is commercially available to you from the many manufacturers and retailers within easy reach. In the last few years, the mattress industry has introduced a variety of technologies and options that you may not be aware of.

Memory foam or hybrid mattress?

It’s up to you; the benefits are many for both types of mattresses. Today’s memory foam is much more advanced than what was available at first. Even cooling gel is one of the available features.

For many people, hybrid mattresses are the best of both worlds. You get the comfort of memory foam and the support of other technologies like individually pocketed coils. Find out more about memory foam here.

What about oversize pillows and oversize bed linens?

Check with your mattress manufacturer. The best companies offer bed linens and pillows matched to their oversize mattress. Of course, you can always try an online shopping site, but it may be a challenge trying to figure out exactly what size you need. These accessories can make great holiday gifts as well!
